Our People

Vassilis mainly advises investment funds and foreign and domestic private companies. His specializations include the full range of transactional real estate investment and development matters, including traditional asset acquisitions as well as international tender offers, construction and commercial development, merger and acquisition transactions, commercial and civil contracts, including franchise and hotel management, commercial and civil litigation and data protection law.
Vassilis has been a member of the Athens Bar since 1993, when he also joined our firm and a partner since 2008. He obtained his law degree from the Law School of the University of Thessaloniki and a Master of Science in Shipping, Trade and Finance from City University Business School in London. Vassilis also has a degree in International Studies and Political Science from the Panteion University in Athens. Vassilis is fluent in Greek and English and also speaks French.
Vassilis is one of the Heads of our firm’s Real estate and Construction Department and has been a speaker at various events and co-author of chapters on Greek legislation in several international publications.

 

Experience, key assignments and notable projects

2022-2018

• Member of the legal team advising the JV TUI AG - Atlantica Hotels & Resorts Group on complex mergers and real estate acquisitions, notably:
• as highest bidder in the international tender process for the acquisition of the assets, including three hotels, from a Greek Company LAKITIRA SA, which was subjected to special liquidation status by virtue of a Court decision. Proceedings were initiated by Eurobank SA one of the major creditors and special liquidator appointed by the Court was Deloitte Greece
• on the acquisition of 100% of the share capital of a Greek company ANELIXIS SA owner and lessee of three hotel complexes in Chania Crete, Greece
• on the acquisition of 50% of the share capital of a Greek company AMMOS SA owner of plots on the island of Rhodes for the construction and development of a hotel complex
• Member of the legal team advising Atlantica Hotels & Resorts Group on complex mergers and real estate acquisitions, notably
  - as bidder in the international tender process for the potential acquisition either directly or indirectly of 100% of the share capital of a Greek company ANAPTIXI EAGEAOU S.A., which is the sole owner of two hotel complexes on the island of Kos, Greece;
  - on the acquisition of 100% of the share capital of a Greek company A&P S.A. owner of a hotel complex on the island of Rhodes, Greece;
  - on the acquisition of 50% of the share capital of a Greek company LIMPATSIS – MORAITIS S.A. owner of a hotel complex on the island of Corfu, Greece.
• Member of the legal team advising the JV TUI AG - Atlantica Hotels & Resorts Group on the assumption of the management of hotel complexes in the islands of Rhodes, Crete and Kos, Greece.
• Member of the legal team advising ANATOLIKES SPORADES SA on the acquisition of a hotel complex on the island of Skiathos, Greece.
• Member of the legal team advising a private client on the sale and withholding the use of properties in Hellinikon, Attica, Greece, with medical clinics constructed thereon, which have been leased to and operated by a Greek company managed by our client.
• Member of the legal team advising clients operating in shipping sector, tourism, commercial sector and service providers in their compliance to the GDPR.

2017 - 2016

• Member of the legal team advising EULER HERMES SA on the cross-border merger by absorption of its Greek affiliated company subject to the approval of both Greek and Belgian Regulators of insurance companies.

2019 - 2014

• Member of the legal team advising the highest bidder in the international tender process for the acquisition of the public property of a total surface of 260,000 sq.m. approx. owned by the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF) and located in Afantou Rhodes Greece.

2013

• Member of the legal team advising the highest bidder in the international tender process for the acquisition of Astir Palace Vouliagmeni S.A. and the property of the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund S.A. in Vouliagmeni

• Member of the legal team advising Abbott Pharmaceuticals on the separation and restructuring of its Greek affiliates

2013 – 2011

• Member of the legal team conducting due diligence on public real estate properties and consulting the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund S.A. on the due diligence process, presentation, exploitation and privatization of its real estate portfolio in cooperation with financial advisors and technical experts

2010 - 2009

• Member of the legal team advising MIG Real Estate on the preparation and presentation of its real estate portfolio (for the listing on the Athens Exchange IPO 2009);
• Member of the legal team advising MIG on the privatization of Olympic Airways;
• Member of the legal team advising SGB SA (Leroy Merlin).

2008-2007

• Member of the legal team advising Sonae Sierra, an international shopping center developer and operator, on the acquisition of land, construction and development of commercial centers in Greece
• Member of the legal team advising the private equity fund ROCKSPRING in connection with the acquisition of the Greek Praktiker stores portfolio

2009-2006

• Member of the legal team advising Fourlis Group on its real estate development, including the Greek franchisee of IKEA (home furniture and equipment), on its establishment in Greece and its participation in a public tender for the long term lease of commercial area in Athens International Airport, as well as on other projects involving land acquisitions, construction agreements and commercial leases pertaining to the development of major stores in various parts of Athens, Thessaloniki, Larissa, Ioannina and of Nicosia, Cyprus.
• Member of the legal team advising Leroy Merlin (major French retailer in the area of DIY) on the concession agreement with AIA for the concession to use and develop of a plot of land adjacent to AIA and the construction of a major store, as well as on other projects involving commercial leases pertaining to the development of major stores in various parts of Athens and Thessaloniki.

2005 - 1997

• Member of the legal team advising Carrefour – Marinopoulos S.A. on the development of its real estate property, including title search, acquisition of land, construction of commercial centers and hypermarkets, drafting operation regulations of buildings of multiple uses (restaurants, cinemas, bowling, stores etc.), commercial lease agreements, setting up real estate portfolios and data rooms in order to attract foreign and domestic investors for the sale and lease back of hypermarkets and supermarkets and the sale of commercial centers
